How many calories in 1 pound of weight?
About 3,500 calories adds up to about 1 pound. This applies whether they are food calories coming in, or calories (burned by exercise) going out.
If you eat 3,500 calories more than your body needs, you will put on about 1 pound. If you use up 3,500 calories more than you eat, you will lose about 1 pound in weight.
So there you have it!

Just think…When you cut 500 calories out of your diet each day for 7 days…you will be consuming 3500 less calories…
Better yet…When you cut out 250 calories from your diet and exercise to burn off 250 calories each day for 7 days; you will have 3500 less calories to worry about…you’ll begin to look great AND feel great in a very short period of time

Lisa,
You are right in that a 3,500-calorie deficit is required to lose 1 pound. But, did you know that it takes approximately 4,400 calories in deficit to lose 1 pound of PURE FAT? In both cases, some lean body mass will be lost.
