Lisa and Vic - leaving for the Oaks Race on my birthday. David and Debbie are from the Philly area. We met them at the South Beach Food and Wine Festival and the next thing I know we are going to the Derby with them and their neighbors Bo and Carolyn. As you can see my hat is simple elegance ... and the hat in the background is beautiful and creative. The Paddocks Lisa, Debbie and Carolyn on the balcony overlooking the paddock area. Debbie Carolyn Lisa David and Debbie Carolyn and Bo We were bummed because they requested no cameras on the invitation. So we obeyed. We get there and there are cameras everywhere. All we had were iphone cameras. BUMMERS Bo and Carolyn David and Debbie Lisa and Guy Fieri at the Barnstable Brown Gala. I tapped in on his shoulder and told him that I folllowed him from South Beach and that he might rememeber my photographer "hasselhof". He laughed looked at Vic and said Yes! He wished me Happy Birthday too. I found him away from the party talking to kids in the neighborhood. He is the real deal.

FYI - the shadow is Vic's arm with the camera taking the picture! What not to wear at a Black Tie event ... The tie matched his pants ...!!! pahleeezzz Bluegrass Duo in the lobby playing on Derby Day morning. Truly added to the ambiance and anticipation. Group of girls in the lobby. Just had to take a picture because of the pink Southern Bell. Lisa and Vic in the lobby. Decided to take pictues inside in case the rain was really bad outside. And check out my cute "Run the for Roses'" hand bag! Well that is what I call it anyway! Carolyn and Bo. (They were at our hotel) Debbie in the limo on the way to the Derby. Lisa and Carolyn in the limo. Believe it or not... lots of ladies today were wearing jellies aka rain boots with their outfits. Most of them MATCHED and complimented the outfit which I thought was nice. Some wore flip flops that looked like an after thought and tacky. I will admit I took my high heeled Bebe flip flops and did change into them. Debbies hat ... Carolyn ... Me in my Derby Hat Vic as we found our seats in the grandstand. We were under cover in Box 317 on the finish line. Doesn't he look like a dapper Southern Gentleman? Bo and Carolyn Lis and Vic ... no his suit is not seersucker ... but it sure looked Derby ish. Joseph was right, those white Calvin Klein shoes were very comfortable. Vic loves them. Dave and Debbie. Prior to buying his Mint Julep tie, which Bo has too ... and now so does Vic! I think this was Race 3 ... didn't bet on this one. I read all about it ... but didn't really believe it. YES... men wear seersucker suits on Derby day. Here is a group of them. Most wear bow ties too. Very Southern...and didn't look bad either. mmmm I must be a Southern girl at heart! This is ... drum roll please... Miss Keller! You KNOW I had to bet on her. She was a long shot. From Ireland. Bet $10 to show ... and was in 2nd to last place going around the first turn ... coming around the last turn to the finish she was in moving up the ranks and ended up 3rd ... I won $36.00 Another race ... bet on 7 Same race ... bet on 11. So bet 7 and 11 and won with the underdog ..11 Another race ... bet on 1 and bet on 8 ... and won with the underdog 8... This was the parade of horses and owners and trainers. Getting ready for the Derby Race ... which was Race 11 of the day. Putting out the Big Red Rose Displays. Super Saver taking a victory lap. Super Saver getting his horse of roses on the way to the Victory Circle. Where is Super Saver? LOL ... in the middle ... What a fabulous time we all had ad the Derby. Two days. Two totally different experiences. One Fabulous Birthday extravaganza! Thanks Honey!Photos 1 – 44 out of 44 | Back to Albums
